BARBIER, Guillaume, printer

Lyon:  par Guillaume Barbier, imprimeur ordinaire du Roy,  1649
Binding: Contemporary sprinkled calf, gilt spine, red sprinkled edges. Corners and spine worn, headcap chipped, top compartment of spine damaged where a shelf label has been removed.
Provenance: Etienne Recamier (1833–1898) with bookplate 'Bibliotheque Lyonnaise 1858–1893 d'Etienne Recamier'. Recamier also had a collection of coins and medals which was sold in 1905. Later bookseller's label 'Librairie Ecclesiastique de Toulouse & Taranne, 33, R. Casette, Paris'.


Paris:  Roret (de l'imprimerie de Crapelet),  1827
Binding: Contemporary sheep-backed sprinkled boards, flat gilt spine with black lettering piece, marbled edges. Head and tail of spine worn and upper joint cracked but sound.
Provenance: Signature ‘L. Guillaume’ on pastedown.

Binding: Original glazed pink boards, green morocco lettering piece, gilt bands. A little rubbed.

Binding: Contemporary pastepaper boards. Worn, spine and upper inner hinge strengthened.

ROYLLET, Sébastien (1700–1767)

Binding: Contemporary green stained vellum boards, red page edges. Joints split and corners worn. The plates are mounted on guards, which are partly torn.

An attractive folio writing book with woodcut and engraved examples. First edition.

Binding: Contemporary blind ruled unlettered sheep. Short splits in joints; rubbed.
Provenance: Early paper shelf labels on spine; Earls of Macclesfield with South Library bookplate and embossed crest on prelims (sale at Sotheby’s London, 26 October 2005, lot 2098).
